Helldivers 2 Automatons: Faction Combat Guide

Helldivers 2 Automatons are a ranged, armored faction, so fight them from cover, use flanks to create better angles, and make sure your squad has a dependable armor response before the mission begins. Do not stay exposed to trade shots when a wall, ridge, or short rotation can reset the fight. Call out the target that is holding the objective or threatening the team’s route, then use precision, explosives, or a support weapon suited to that job. A patient, coordinated advance is safer and faster than charging every firing line.

Deployment checklist

Push the Bot front with a plan

  • Move from cover to cover instead of standing in open sightlines.
  • Ping the Bot threat that blocks movement or the objective.
  • Create a flank when a frontal angle is inefficient.
  • Bring one dependable response to armor or structures.
  • Use Stratagems to break a position before the squad advances.
  • Regroup after a push instead of chasing isolated targets.
01

Treat cover as part of your kit

Automatons make open ground expensive because ranged fire can force stims, drain reinforcements, and stop a clean objective push. Use hard cover to reload and line up shots, then move before the enemy can settle on the same angle. A small change in position can expose a better target while reducing incoming pressure. This is why a Bot build needs reliable movement and sightlines as much as raw damage.

02

Flank for better angles instead of forcing the front

Many hardened Bot targets are more manageable when the squad can see a vulnerable angle rather than pouring fire into the most protected surface. Ask one player to hold attention while another takes a short side route from cover. Keep the rotation close enough that the team can support the flanker if the position becomes unsafe. A controlled flank is a team action, not a reason for one player to disappear behind enemy lines.

03

Prioritize what blocks the objective

The first target is not always the closest one. Focus on the enemy that can pin the squad, threaten a mission terminal, control the route you need, or create an immediate heavy-armor problem. Use pings so the team spends the right support weapon or Stratagem once, rather than several players using the same answer at different targets. Once the path is open, move toward the objective before the next patrol turns the fight into a delay.

04

Bring a heavy-target plan before it is needed

A team should know who can answer armor and structures before the drop begins. That answer can be a support weapon, a precisely timed call-in, or a combination of teammates, but it needs a backup if the first tool is unavailable. Do not make every player carry the same solution while leaving long-range pressure or defensive control uncovered. A balanced squad reaches hard targets with more resources left for the next objective.

05

Advance, reset, and avoid needless pursuit

After clearing a position, take the objective or relocate instead of remaining in the same ground to fight every reinforcement. Automatons are most dangerous when a team keeps trading fire from a spot that no longer serves the mission. Re-establish cover and firing lanes after each push, especially before interacting with a terminal or calling extraction. This objective-first rhythm reduces prolonged exposure and keeps the operation moving.
