Deployment checklist
Rank weapons for the mission in front of you
- Choose the faction before choosing a weapon ranking.
- Give the primary one clear job at its best range.
- Use the secondary to cover a weakness, not duplicate the primary.
- Reserve a support slot for armor, structures, or long-range pressure.
- Check teammates so the squad covers more than one damage profile.
- Re-test favorites after a balance patch or new enemy release.
A weapon ranking needs context
A list that ranks every weapon together can be a useful starting point, but it cannot explain the mission where each one shines. Range, armor interaction, reload pressure, enemy density, terrain, and available Stratagems all affect what a weapon can do. Treat a tier as a description of a role, not a permanent verdict on the item. The best ranking tells you what to bring into a situation rather than asking you to use the same gun everywhere.
Give the primary weapon a defined job
Choose a primary for the pressure you face most: accurate shots along a lane, repeated close-range stopping power, safe explosive utility, or steady fire into a group. Do not expect it to perform every job at once. A primary that is controlled and efficient at distance can still need a teammate or support weapon when enemies collapse on the objective. Naming the job makes it easier to recognize whether a future unlock is an upgrade or simply another version of the same tool.
Use the secondary and support weapon to close gaps
Your secondary should provide a quick answer when the primary is empty, awkward at close range, or poorly suited to a specific target. The support weapon then carries the heaviest responsibility: armor response, long-range precision, demolition, or sustained damage. Avoid stacking three weapons that all solve light enemies while nobody can engage a hard target. The strongest individual gun is less valuable than a three-weapon package with no obvious blind spot.
Change the ranking for faction and objective
Automaton deployments often reward cover-aware precision and a way to contribute across long firing lanes. Terminid missions can put more pressure on space control and fast response when enemies get close. Illuminate missions may force you to switch between crowd pressure and unusual high-priority targets within the same operation. An objective that requires movement, defense, demolition, or extraction can further change the best choice, so set your tier list after you read the operation rather than before.
Keep a patch-aware shortlist
Recent major updates have changed weapon, Stratagem, and enemy balance, so an old universal ranking can become misleading quickly. Keep two or three familiar picks for each role and test them after a major balance note instead of discarding your whole kit for a new headline. Watch whether a change affects the target you use the weapon against, not just its popularity in a list. This keeps your personal tier list grounded in repeatable mission choices.
