Deployment checklist
Fight the Illuminate with a clear priority
- Keep a clear escape route before the crowd closes in.
- Ping the target that is disrupting movement or the objective first.
- Use focused fire rather than splitting damage across every threat.
- Save heavy tools for targets that block the squad’s next action.
- Watch for the Crusher’s regeneration pressure and finish the fight decisively.
- Do not stand in one place when agile enemies can close or leap.
Keep the squad moving
Illuminate pressure becomes more dangerous when the squad loses its route through the fight. Before committing to an objective, look for the side you will use to reload, rotate, and fall back if the enemy fills the approach. Do not let every player fire from the same exposed point while the group closes around it. A short coordinated move to open ground or cover is often more valuable than trying to win a crowded standstill.
Prioritize the threat that changes the fight
When several Illuminate units are present, focus on the one that stops the team from moving, completing the objective, or supporting a teammate. Use pings and short callouts so the squad does not spread fire across every target at once. Once that priority is handled, return to group control and clean up the pressure around it. This rhythm protects ammunition and keeps the objective from disappearing behind a long, unfocused brawl.
Adapt to the new Void enemies
Devoid of Liberty introduced the Crusher and the Wretch as new mutated Illuminate enemies. The Crusher can take heavy damage and regenerate, so sustained, decisive damage is more useful than leaving it half-finished while the squad turns away. The Wretch is agile, can dodge and leap while closing, and needs alert aim and space to react. Treat both as reasons to keep a flexible close-pressure answer in the squad rather than as an excuse to abandon the rest of the mission plan.
Shape the loadout around crowd control and a hard answer
Bring one reliable way to manage several advancing enemies and one dependable answer for the target your primary cannot handle. A teammate can carry the long-range or heavy role while you choose area control, but agree on that split before launch. Avoid a team where every player brings only narrow anti-armor tools or only light crowd tools. Illuminate operations reward a squad that can switch jobs quickly when a new threat appears near the objective.
Hold objectives with lanes, not a single circle
During a defense or extraction, assign each player a direction or a reachable lane instead of stacking shoulder to shoulder. This gives the squad more time to see a priority threat and reduces the chance that one sudden push traps everyone together. Place defensive Stratagems where they cover an approach without blocking the route you need to use. If the position collapses, rotate as a group and rebuild the firing lanes rather than scattering in different directions.
